RESPONSIBILITIES:
Isolation and characterizing a wide variety of BioSafety Level 2 organisms (bacteria and viruses) using microbial and molecular biology techniques
Monitoring and managing projects to meet defined goals and deadlines
Overseeing personnel who utilize established scientific techniques to compile and analyze data and write technical reports detailing procedures, outcomes, and observations
Implementing the overall laboratory policies, procedures, and services
Ensuring efficient and effective departmental operations, including department quality control and compliance adherence
Managing and directing the research and development programs to meet organizational needs and to capitalize on potential new products
Developing and implementing research and development procedures and techniques
Ensuring proper procedure, and helping devise new development techniques
REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelors Degree in Microbiology or related science field
Must have 4-6 years of professional lab experience (preferably in industry rather than academia)
Management experience not required, but preferred
Must be very hands-on as this position will involve lab work as well as team and project management
Relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals
Familiar with a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures
Must be highly motivated with a positive attitude and have the ability to multi-task effectively and adapt quickly to rapidly developing opportunities
Must possess strong interpersonal, report writing, and oral communication skills
Must possess good organizational skills and the ability to work effectively in a team and multi-project environment
Leads and directs the work of others
A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected
